Google Earth free download
Google Earth is one of the most powerful programs that has ever been made available free to download. Google Earth
was released by Google in 2005 and has developed into a detailed and sophisticated search tool in its own right. Google
Earth combines images from satellites, high resolution maps and the reach of Google Search. Paid versions of Google Earth
are available to download for power users, but the program itself is available free to download by visiting the Google
Earth home page.
You can download Google Earth free for Windows, Mac and Linux. Android, iPhone and Blackberry versions are also available.
Registered Pro users can download Google Earth Pro. When downloading Google Earth, you are presented with
an option to download Google Chrome as well (also free) - one of the
ways in which Google promotes its own web browser - and soon-to-be operating system.
Download size
The Google Earth free for Mac OSX is the largest download size: a whopping 35MB. Other platforms: Windows - 12.5 MB; iPhone
- 8.9 MB; Android - 5.72 MB and Linux - 24 MB. Google Earth is available in 41 languages. The download process and installation
is extremely
simple. Note that if you are using an older computer with limited video RAM, or if you are not on broadband, performance
may be slow.

Virtual Globe "For anyone who has ever dreamed of flying..." -
NY Times | |
 |
Google
Earth is a "virtual globe": it's a globe that sits inside your computer. You can choose to go to any place
on the planet that you want to explore. The free download only includes the software that is needed to make things work;
the maps, satellite images and local facts are downloaded from the internet as they zoom into view.
Google Earth has a user friendly interface which lets you zoom quickly to where you want to go.
Some key features are :
-
Fly from space to your street. Type in an address and go right there.
-
Search for restaurants, schools, movie theatres, parks and hotels.
-
Tilt and rotate the view to see terrain and buildings in 3D.
Google Street view is not a separate download; it is part of the program and lets you see and navigate a streetview images
from many locations.
You can download lots of information on adding dynamic data layers, free 3D models, current events, etc. from the Google
Earth Community http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb , a large user forum.
From Google Earth Hacks http://www.googleearthhacks.com you can download
Google Earth applications for free. |

Google Earth - Moon | |
 |
Moon in Google Earth is not a separate download - just select
Moon from the top toolbar to start exploring. With Moon in Google Earth, you can:
- Take tours of landing sites
- View 3D models of landed spacecraft
- Zoom into 360-degree photos to see astronauts' footprints
- Watch rare TV footage of the Apollo missions
A very cool feature of the landing site tours is that they are narrated by the astronauts who first landed on those spots. |

Other new features
Included in the latest free download version of Google Earth are:
- Google Ocean. You can dive to the sea floor, view BBC and National Geographic underwater footage,
and explore shipwrecks in 3D, e.g. the Titanic.
- Mars. Flying over Mars gives you views like those from NASA's explorers and allows you to explore
the Martian topography in great detail.
- Historical Earth maps.
There is no need to download separate software; switching between Google Earth, Sky, and
Mars can be done from the menubar or from the planet icon in the toolbar.
