The promotion on the website is way over the top, but TV is a stable freeware program that is worth checking out. |

The content is mostly broadcast, using Java, in Windows Media Player format; Mac users make sure youy have downloaded the latest FlipforMac Quicktime conversion software from Microsoft (download FlipforMac) Because of the bandwidth required, there are occasional problems with downloads through 4TV.com and other such sites. If that happens, visit one of the other recommended sites and return later. An interesting new category is HDTV channels. This is one for the future, as bandwidth and connection speeds improve. |

TVUPlayer by Chinese company TVUnetworks enables you to view a variety of free TV stations that are broadcast over the Internet. The program does not include quite as many channels as found in similar programs, but the selection is of good quality and includes many major networks like CBS, NBC, FOX, ESPN and others. TVUplayer uses peers to redistribute content similar to bittorrent, which allows for effective distributed streaming. However, there are questions over the legality of the TVU contnet. There may be channels carried by this software which have not given copyright permission and TVU may be breach of copyright laws. Software4free.org will keep you updated on developments regarding legality issues. Like TV (above), TVUPlayer is Windows only. |

A clear negative in terms of viewer experience is that the picture quality is mixed, often inferior. YouTube uses Flash technology, because it is preinstalled on over 90% of computers.
